MAB condemns attacks against BBC crew in Riyadh

6th of June, 2004

The Muslim Association of Britain has just learned that an attack on a BBC crew in Riyadh has claimed the life of cameraman Simon Cumbers, and lead to the injury of Middle East Expert Correspondent Frank Gardner.

The Muslim community in Britain has consistently condemned such attacks which violate the peace and target civilians, and MAB wishes to add its denunciation of atrocities such as this which target journalists and news reporters.

Honest and dedicated media personnel are the only means for truth to be conveyed, and in the past MAB had been quick to condemn attacks against journalists and correspondents in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan, often perpetrated by official military personnel. These attacks in Riyadh are equally appalling and the perpetrators must be swiftly brought to justice.

MAB conveys its heartfelt condolences to the family of the Simon Cumbers and its best wishes to Frank Gardner for a full and speedy recovery.
